Compendium of knowledge for healthcare workers
For one of the world's largest pharmaceutical corporations, we have created the closed Biopso portal for gathering and distributing knowledge essential for treating patients with psoriasis.

Client description
AbbVie is an innovative biopharmaceutical corporation with global reach, aiming to develop advanced therapies that address the most complex and ever-growing health needs of patients worldwide.
Its products are used by over 57 million people annually in more than 175 countries. In 2023, the company ranked sixth on the list of the largest pharmaceutical companies according to Pharmiweb.com
One of AbbVie's products is the drug Humira, which is widely used in the treatment of various diseases, including psoriasis.
The aim of the project
The aim of the project we implemented is to provide all the information necessary to start and continue the treatment of patients with psoriasis using biologic drugs. The recipients of the tool are exclusively professionals working in healthcare in Belgium.
What technologies did we use?
PHP
Symfony
JavaScript
Bootstrap

Main challanges
During the implementation of the project, we faced several challenges, including:
- A large amount of unstructured medical knowledge requiring continuous updating.
- Varied formats of materials - text, illustrations, documents, charts, tools.
- The need to restrict access exclusively to professional healthcare workers, while simultaneously eliminating the need for registration.
- Strict requirements for consistent design aligned with corporate branding.

Solution
The Biopso portal was created as a dedicated system tailored to the needs of the client and, most importantly, healthcare workers. Biopso supports the use of AbbVie's Humira drug but focuses on providing non-promotional information. The tool operates under the motto “Biopso Compendium - Your daily support in caring for patients with psoriasis”.
The portal's primary task is to structure and organize knowledge, documents, and other medical materials to facilitate patient treatment. For this purpose, we developed a proprietary CMS system, enabling the management of knowledge divided into four main categories: Initiation of Treatment, Vaccinations, Monitoring Treatment, and Comorbid Diseases.
To limit access exclusively to professional healthcare workers while avoiding the necessity for registration, we implemented a login system using the INAMI code and the user's profession. This is an identification code used by the Belgian National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance. Every medical worker in Belgium receives a unique INAMI number. This number allows for identification in the context of prescribing medication, providing medical services, and in the health insurance billing process.

Portal features
Main features include
- Materials structured into chapters and subchapters in the form of a knowledge base.
- Management of the entire knowledge base via CMS.
- Simple login for professionals without the need for registration.
- Advanced content search engine.
- Ordering prints of content.

The project team
The project team consisted of two back‑end developers, one front‑end developer, a project manager, a tester, and a DevOps specialist.

Project effects
BEFORE
- Lack of a centralized knowledge base in this field
- Dispersed, unstructured medical materials
- Limited ability to control access to knowledge
- Complicated treatment of patients
AFTER
- Full digitization of the knowledge base
- Organized and structured medical materials
- Easy access to knowledge exclusively for medical professionals
- Facilitation and support in the treatment of patients
What the company has gained?
Thanks to the collaboration with us and the implementation of the Biopso portal, AbbVie has created a central, fully digitalized medical knowledge base that streamlined the process of treating patients with psoriasis. The platform not only organized and automated access to key medical information but also shortened the time to access necessary information. This improved the quality of care and contributed to increased trust among healthcare workers, positively impacting AbbVie's image and competitiveness.
