Effective teaching methods with Chat GPT
Topics covered:
Do you want your students to quickly and effectively assimilate new material, achieve better results, and be more motivated to learn? ChatGPT can help you with that.
This advanced chatbot actively supports the learning process, making your students absorb knowledge more efficiently – and have a lot of fun doing it. This encourages students to learn more willingly, improve their grades, and build a better opinion about the school. Discover proven learning methods with ChatGPT and see how much they can simplify your students' knowledge acquisition.
Why learn with artificial intelligence?
Are you a teacher, running a language school, or another educational institution? Surely you want your students to achieve the best possible academic results. Assimilating a large amount of material often requires time, effort, and experimentation. Fortunately, large language models (LLMs) come to the rescue – powerful tools that can revolutionize the way your students acquire knowledge.
Why encourage young people to learn effectively? First of all, it saves time and energy. Instead of spending long hours cramming, they can master the material faster and better. Effective learning also translates into better grades, exam results, and overall satisfaction with their progress. And when students see that their efforts bring results, they are more motivated to continue working.
How to use ChatGPT for learning?
ChatGPT is a great companion in the learning process. Students can ask it questions about topics they are interested in, request explanations of difficult concepts, or generate examples. The chatbot helps them better understand a topic, expand their knowledge, and reinforce material.
But do your students know how to use its capabilities effectively? The key is to ask precise, well-formulated questions. The more details they provide, the more accurate and helpful the answers will be. They should try to narrow down the topic and clearly specify what they need. For example, instead of "tell me about the French Revolution", it's better to ask, "what were the main causes of the French Revolution?" or "how did the French Revolution impact the future of Europe?".
Encourage students to experiment with different styles of questions and instructions. They can ask ChatGPT to:
- summarize a topic;
- generate a quiz;
- provide examples of practical applications of a concept...;
- ...or even play the devil's advocate to challenge their theses.
The more creatively students use the chatbot's capabilities, the better the results they will achieve.
However, remember that ChatGPT has its limitations. It may sometimes provide imprecise or incorrect answers, especially if the question is unclear or pertains to very specialized knowledge. Therefore, always recommend that students verify the information obtained from reliable sources – textbooks, scientific articles, or experts in the field. ChatGPT should be treated as a helpful tool, not relied upon 100%.
Artificial intelligence also does not replace independent learning. It does not teach critical thinking, problem-solving, or practical skills. These competencies should be developed independently through exercises, projects, and experience. The chatbot, however, will support them in the process of acquiring and consolidating theoretical knowledge.
Effective learning methods
Here are some proven learning methods in which ChatGPT can help your students.
The flashcard methodh
Flashcards are small cards with questions and answers used for reviewing and consolidating material. It is a simple but very effective way to learn – especially for memorizing facts, definitions, or foreign language vocabulary.
How does it work? On one side of the flashcard, the student writes a question or term, and on the other, the answer or explanation. Then, they regularly go through the flashcards, trying to answer the question without looking at the other side. If they answer correctly, they set the flashcard aside. If not, they repeat that part of the material.
ChatGPT can generate ready-made sets of flashcards for students based on given topics. They just need to ask it to create questions and answers on a topic and then write them on small cards. They can also ask the chatbot to check their answers and provide hints if they make a mistake.
The advantage of this method is active knowledge acquisition. It is not passive reading of a textbook but a mental effort to recall information. In this way, students better consolidate the material and find it easier to recall it later. Moreover, regular reviews help transfer knowledge from short-term to long-term memory.
The king of the ring method
The king of the ring method, also known as interleaved practice, involves alternating different types of exercises and topics during learning. Instead of learning in blocks, focusing on one topic, various elements are mixed together.
The method's name refers to Muhammad Ali's boxing training, which involved varied, intermingled exercises rather than repetitive drills. This helped him better prepare for unforeseen situations during training.
For example, when learning math, instead of solving only equations first, then inequalities, and finally functions, you can mix these topics. The student solves one equation, then an inequality, moves to a function, returns to an equation – and so on. Although this method may seem chaotic at first, it actually produces very good results.
Suppose we denote equations with the letter A, inequalities with B, and functions with C. Classic material learning looks like this:
- A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3, C1, C2, C3.
But in the king of the ring method:
- A1, B1, C1, A2, B2, C2, A3, B3, C3.
Why does this work? Mainly because it forces the brain to make a greater effort. Instead of operating on autopilot, you have to consider each time what type of task it is and what method of solution is appropriate. This training helps the student better understand the material, see connections between different topics, and facilitates later knowledge recall.
ChatGPT can generate mixed sets of exercises or questions from different sections. Just provide it with a list of topics that need practice, and it will prepare a "mixed" training for the student.
The teacher method
According to this method, we learn best when we try to teach others. Before explaining a topic, you must first understand and organize it in your mind. Additionally, you strive to present the subject clearly and accessibly, which requires deeper information processing.
ChatGPT, in a sense, allows students to step into your shoes. They can explain the topics they want to master, answer its questions, and provide examples. If ChatGPT doesn't understand something, they should try to present the topic in different words or find better analogies. This way of learning helps them better understand and consolidate the material.
If they wish, AI will ask them additional questions that test their knowledge and make them think. It may also ask for explanations of more complex issues or practical applications of a concept. This is also great training for future teachers.

Benefits of using ChatGPT in learning
- Personalization - the chatbot adapts to the needs and learning pace of the students. They can ask it questions about specific topics and receive personalized answers, allowing them to learn more effectively.
- Automation - ChatGPT can generate notes, summaries, or flashcard sets. This way, students save time they would otherwise spend manually creating these materials. And that's not all – AI can also prepare a personalized study plan or quiz to test their knowledge.
- Quick access to information - instead of spending hours searching the internet, you can simply ask ChatGPT about topics of interest. Students can do the same – they will receive concise and specific answers in seconds. Just remind them not to trust it blindly – it's much better to rely on their own knowledge and use this tool to organize it.
- Interactivity - learning with a chatbot is more interactive and engaging than traditional methods. Instead of passively reading a textbook, students engage in dialogue, ask questions, and discuss. This way of learning stimulates the brain more and helps to better assimilate knowledge.
